I wish everyone out there all the best in this coming New Year. May you succeed in whatever it is you do and may you do for others as you would want them to do for you. Let's bring back courtesy and kindness into our everyday lives this year. It seems to have fallen by the wayside. It could be as much as holding a shop door open for someone or giving up your place in line to the lady with the cranky child. Even a good morning to a passerby on the street. Pass it on! Happy 2012, maybe it better than the last!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, I know I sure did! It was spent leisurely at home where my family and I exchanged gifts and spent some much needed time together. My mom made a kick-ass turkey dinner as usual and it was nice to put everything else on hold for a few days and just be together. I'm sure as many of you out there know, too often do we get swept away in our daily routines of school and work and our time with those we love gets put on the back burner. I love Christmas mostly for the time I get with my family (don't get me wrong I LOVE presents but I love my family more).

I'm sure there are many of you out there that agree with me when I say, "There isn't enough time in a day." Since I began working a part time job 4 days a week, I'm finding there isn't enough time for knitting, blogging, designing or even just doing nothing. My job isn't demanding at any rate, but my schedule never gives me two days off in a row which is beginning to drag me down some. I sometimes feel like I work a day then get to come home for a day off and spend my day catching up on house work and before I know it my day off is gone!
Currently, I have 2 fingerless mitt patterns that need writing up, pictures that need taking and publishing, plus a new hat pattern in the beginning stages. I'm hoping with having a day off tomorrow I can get all my housework done early and get down to getting my knitting affairs, as it were, in order. Ok, whining aside, my sister and I attended the "Professional Craft Fair" at Beban Park in Nanaimo this past weekend. All I can say is, intimidating! This season I've had a couple of invites to a trade show and a craft fair in Victoria and I decided that since I'm hardly prepared this season to take on such endeavors, that maybe I could attend some fairs as a customer and maybe next year as a vendor. After visiting the "Professional Craft Fair" I know that I am not among that caliber of vendors and would be more suited to being a part of a, shall we say, more hometown style fair. I have plans to visit a few more this month and in the beginning of December and I hope that I can find one that fits my style of craft. Happy Hallowe'en everyone! Have a safe and fun evening filled with ghosts, goblins and the spooky spirit!
My newest creation!

I bought the most wonderful pattern a couple of weeks ago by a designer called "The Lovely Crow". I am new to crochet and my skills are increasing and I was very impressed with the amount of instruction and clarification there was in the pattern. The designer also includes links to videos of certain techniques, even how she makes the boots look great for photos! Her dedication to her patterns and the support she offers is something to aspire to for me! What I ended up with a few pairs of well crafted, great looking boots! Some months ago, while yarn shopping with a friend, I found some Peruvian wool in a beautiful jewel tone blue and could not decide what to do with it until now. After much thought and a few false starts, I think I've got it; some fingerless gloves. While they are still in the planning stages and I have had to restart a few times, they are coming along. I intend to have the unique cable running directly up the middle of the glove and surrounded by seed stitch the entire way. I've had a little trouble keeping the cable in the middle and we'll see what happens when I get to the thumb gusset. But if all goes well, they should be wonderful! Look for the pattern release in the weeks to come!
This warm and stylish beanie is designed with cables that come to a peak rather than crossing over. Wear it slouchy or fold up the brim and make it a fitted beanie! However you wear it, its a warm, fast knit! Makes a great gift for men, women or teens! Best of all, it's free!! (Find it at the bottom of this blog post!) Skill Level: Intermediate Knitting techniques include: knitting in the round, making cables, decreasing (knitting 2 stitches together), and increasing. What you'll need: size 10 US 16' circular needles or set of dpns 180y/ 164m of bulky yarn cable needle stitch marker tapestry needle Gauge: 10 rows + 10 sts in stockinette st = 2.5 inches using size 10 US needles Finished Circumference 16 inches (41cm) in circumference (unstretched) and 10.5 inches (27cm) in length. Thanks stretch in the brim and hat it can accommodate a larger sized head. One size fits most. September 23rd, 2011 A mistake has been found in Row 1 of the written instructions “body of the hat”. It read (p1, k2, p8, k3) x5, p1 But should read (p1, k3, p8, k3) x5, p1. The charted directions are correct. Sorry for any inconvenience, if you wish to download the pattern again it has been corrected and re-uploaded below. Thanks! These changes were made on September 23rd, 2011 so if you downloaded it previous to this date you will need the updated pattern
With the departure of summer comes the crisp evenings and the promise of cooler weather to come. It also has my brain turning on new knitting ideas for fall hats! After taking quite a bit of the summer off from knitting, I've picked up my needles again and have a new creation, Ziggy. Named after the zigzag pattern of knit stitches, this new slouchy hat is perfect for the upcoming cool days of fall. With the arrival of the new school year, and having less hours at work, I hope that I will have more time for knitting (and blogging)!
In the past 2 weeks, I've learned to crochet. I can't believe how much I'm enjoying it! And after a few trial squares and little flowers, I decided to create a blanket I've always adored but my own version of it. I am a huge Roseanne fan and anyone who is also a fan will know of the blanket I speak. It appears in almost every episode and I love it! My own version will have only 2 colors per square, one being black and the other being either yellow, pink, grey, white, blue or green. It's coming along quite nicely and I am loving watching it grow! I envision this blanket keeping us warm while watching movies, or when we are sick, and maybe even leaving this house with my son one day when he moves out. More pictures to come as it grows!
This handsome man of mine has completed his last year of elementary school! Grade 7 down, onto grade 8. It feels like it was only yesterday that I dropped him off for his first day of kindergarten where he happily went to play with the other kids, leaving me standing there with tears in my eyes. A brand new world is waiting for him inside his new high school and amazingly he seems calm and ready to take it on. Well, I'll have the butterflies for him. His elementary school had a nice grad for the kids in the theme of "A night at the Oscars" and each child was given their own Oscar. There was time for pictures before the parents left and the kids had dinner and a dance. Everyone looked so great! I can't believe its done. Where does the time go? Before I know it, he'll be grading out of high school and moving out! Sometimes I wish there was a "slow down life" button. I guess all you can do is take a deep breath and try to take it all in. I'm very proud of my son!
